Il mio sguardo verso l’Europa

Quest’anno scolastico ho insegnato per la prima volta nella scuola superiore ITIS “P. Paleocapa” di Bergamo. Al primo incontro, il mio nuovo preside mi ha illustrato i vari progetti di mobilità all’estero, sia per gli studenti che per gli insegnanti.

Non riesco a ricordare quando e perché sia iniziata la mia passione per le lingue straniere, ho deciso di studiarle, prima a scuola e poi all’università, perché sono profondamente affascinata dalle persone che sanno esprimere i propri sentimenti e pensieri in più di una lingua e, da quando ricordi, mi sono sempre immaginata nel futuro ad insegnare lingue straniere, perciò, quando il mio preside mi ha parlato del progetto di mobilità Erasmus plus KA1, ho iniziato a riflettere sull’opportunità di andare all’estero per frequentare un corso ed imparare nuove strategie di insegnamento, comunicando così al meglio la mia passione agli studenti; inoltre l’idea di incontrare altri insegnanti da tutta Europa è stata per me infinitamente motivante, perché sono assolutamente convinta che solo attraverso il confronto con gli altri, possiamo migliorare il nostro modo di considerare le cose e cambiare le nostre prospettive. Io penso che l’Europa sia una grande possibilità per condividere conoscenze, aprire le menti e trovare nuove opportunità.

Sono partita per Praga nel mese di aprile, durante le vacanze di Pasqua, e ho frequentato un corso della durata di cinque giorni sugli “Approcci innovativi all’insegnamento”, presso l’ITC International, un istituto dove, durante l’anno scolastico, anche altri miei colleghi hanno seguito dei corsi. Durante il corso ho incontrato altri tre insegnanti greci, che parlano fluentemente l’inglese, perciò abbiamo partecipato alle interessantissime lezioni, senza alcun problema di comunicazione.  Da questa esperienza ho imparato tanto, non solo come insegnante, ma anche come persona; i miei compagni di corso sono stati veramente fantastici, non hanno mai parlato in greco quando io ero con loro e, alla fine della settimana praghese, ci siamo confrontati sulla possibilità di promuovere una collaborazione tra le nostre scuole e questo è uno degli obiettivi fondamentali della mobilità Erasmus plus.

Le nostre due insegnanti, Smriti e Petra erano chiare, competenti e molto accoglienti. Ho trovato le loro lezioni illuminanti: ci hanno insegnato tantissime strategie di insegnamento, perciò, il mio bisogno di nuove idee è stato completamente soddisfatto; non possiamo più utilizzare solo i metodi di insegnamento tradizionali, perché gli studenti sono cambiati molto durante questi ultimi anni e vogliono essere coinvolti con nuove strategie accattivanti. Durante il corso, abbiamo sperimentato praticamente i nuovi approcci all’insegnamento proposti, con l’aiuto di risorse digitali, che sono veramente stimolanti.

Mi sono piaciute veramente tanto le lezioni sullo sviluppo del pensiero critico e creativo, perché credo che la scuola non debba puntare solo alla semplice trasmissione del sapere, gli adolescenti sanno navigare la rete e possono trovare facilmente tutte le informazioni che cercano, ma, come insegnanti, noi abbiamo il dovere di incoraggiare i nostri studenti a trovare soluzioni originali ai problemi e ai compiti che affronteranno durante la loro vita.

Durante il corso ho capito come rendere le lezioni più  coinvolgenti, creando materiale pronto all’uso e proponendo argomenti, che tengano conto dell’interdisciplinarità. Tutto ciò può aiutarci a motivare gli studenti e ridurre i risultati insoddisfacenti. L’insegnante dovrebbe diventare la guida che promuove lo scambio tra pari e un’attiva partecipazione al processo educativo.

Sono veramente entusiasta della mia esperienza Erasmus e ringrazio la mia scuola per avermi dato questa opportunità. Spero di poter avere altre occasioni come questa, perché penso sia importante per il mio lavoro di insegnante e fondamentale per migliorare e favorire l’acquisizione di una coscienza europea.

MY FRESH LOOK TOWARD EUROPE – by Paola Maria Carbonara

This was my first year in the high school ITIS P. Paleocapa, and when I first met my headmaster, describing the school, he told me about all the opportunities of moving abroad both for students and teachers, offered by this school.

I don’t remind when and why my passion for foreign languages and different cultures started, what I do know is that I decided to study languages at school and then at the university because I was deeply fascinated by people who could express their feelings and thoughts in more than a language, and, as far back as I can remember,  I’ve always imagined me as a language teacher, so when my headmaster told me about the Erasmus plus KA1 mobility project of the school, I started thinking of the opportunity of going abroad, to attend a course and to learn new teaching strategies to communicate my passion to the students; furthermore the idea of meeting other teachers from all Europe was really motivating, because I am absolutely convinced that only through the comparison with the others we can improve our way to consider things and we can change our perspectives. I think Europe is a great opportunity for all to share knowledge, to open minds and to find new opportunities.

I went in Prague in April, during the Easter holidays, and I attended a five days course on “Innovative Approaches to Teaching” with the ITC International, an organization where, during the school year other colleagues had followed lessons. We were four teachers attending the course and I was the only Italian, the other teachers were Greek and they spoke a fluent English, so the lessons were interesting and we could work together without any problem of communication. From this experience I’ve learnt so much, not only as a teacher, but also as a person; my course mates were authentically fantastic, they never spoke Greek when I was with them and at the end of the week in Prague we had become friends, probably in the future we will promote a collaboration among our schools and that’s one of the fundamental aims of the Erasmus plus mobility.

Our two teachers, Ms. Smriti and Ms. Petra were clear, competent and nice. I found their lessons enlightening: they taught us lots of teaching strategies, therefore my need of new ideas have been deeply satisfied; I believe that we can’t no longer use a traditional way of teaching, because students have changed a lot during these last few years, and they want to get involved with new amazing strategies. During the course, we experimented practically new approaches to teaching, with the help of digital resources, which are truly stimulating.

What I absolutely liked were the lessons on the develop of creative and critical thinking, because school should not only aim to the simple transmission of knowledge, teenagers can surf the net and know everything they are searching for, but as teachers, we have the must to encourage our students to find their original solutions to problems or tasks they are dealing with, during their life.

Another important thing I learnt during the course was to make lessons more fascinating generating ready‐to‐use materials and ideas with regards to interdisciplinary. This could be a way to motivate students and reduce low achievement. The teacher should be a guide, promoting peer exchange and active participation within the education process.

I am enthusiastic about my Erasmus experience and I thank my school for giving me this opportunity. I hope I could join other opportunities like the one I had, because I think it is important for my work as a teacher and it is fundamental for all to acquire and promote a European consciousness.
